April 2009: Just a little trim please....

Lawn advice from leading lawn care company TruGreen

It’s that time of the year again! Spring has arrived and no doubt your grass is a little longer than when you last looked! So its time to bring out the lawnmower from the back of the shed and dust it off for the first mow of the year.

However, Andy White, expert from leading lawn care company TruGreen advises to hesitate before hacking back the lawn too far: “However long the grass has grown during Winter, don’t be tempted to cut too close. It is safer and healthier for the grass if it is only lightly trimmed, removing only one third from the length of the leaf, never any more in one cut.”

In order to do this the blades of the mower should be reset to a higher setting so that only the top of the leaf is shaved. This can gradually be lowered during subsequent cuts until the desired length is achieved.
