Do you know what your lawn needs this Autumn? We can help!
This summer has provided a mixture of hot sunny days and at times heavy downpours, providing the ideal conditions for chafer grubs and leather jackets to survive and prosper.
Chafer grubs and leatherjackets are the most common lawn pests which feed on the roots of turf grasses causing the plants to die back and have a straw coloured appearance. It is important that any infestations are treated immediately, preferably at the larvae stage, to achieve the most efficient control, as later treatments, when their development is more advanced, may be less effective or require more than one treatment, resulting in major damage to the lawn.
Crane flies have already been seen flying around, and as they will now be laying their eggs, you are advised when noticing large numbers hovering over your lawn to contact TruGreen, as we have the product to control such problems, preserving your lawn quality.
Sowing grass seed in the autumn
One of the most asked questions in the autumn is “can my lawn be over sown at this time of the year”?
In many ways the late summer and autumn can be the best time of year to over seed a lawn, especially after scarification and aeration have been completed. The soil is warmer in the autumn which encourages good germination and grass establishment. This can be more beneficial than in the spring when the soil temperature can still be cold and less responsive.
Generally speaking there is more chance of rainfall, and less chance of a drought late in the summer and in the early autumn, and given that moisture is essential in the germination process, we would encourage over seeding as part of any autumn renovation programme.
Autumn Lawn Care
The application of the correct autumn fertiliser is important in maintaining lawn quality and health. Most importantly by increasing the level of potassium we will raise the turf’s tolerance to disease, wear and soft growth as well as helping it to withstand low temperature during the winter months.
Additional benefits of our controlled release autumn fertilisers include the retention of colour and a healthy root structure, important factors if the lawn is to survive periods of frost and snow.
Prepare your lawn for Winter
All lawns benefit from having any remaining thatch that has accumulated over the summer months removed before the onset of winter, and it is equally important to maintain drainage if moss is to be controlled.
Maximise your lawn’s ability to overcome the winter by speaking with your local TruGreen operator about the level of scarification, aeration and fertiliser that will be required. Combining these mechanical services and applying the correct level of nutrients will allow for a more healthy lawn in the spring.

Areas We Cover
TruGreen Ross on Wye provide professional lawncare services to the following areas:
Services We Offer
Our business typically serves those who have a keen interest in their home and garden, who derive great satisfaction from having a beautiful lawn to complement and enhance their entire property. Our customers range from terraced houses with a 30 sq metre garden to farms with a couple of acres so we can cover any need.
We specialise in providing a complete renovation service by removing moss, thatch and weeds from old, neglected and compacted lawns and in maintaining lawns in top condition by returning to provide different treatments according to the season and the lawns’ specific needs and the owners requirements.
We use top-quality professional fertilisers, pesticides and disease controls that are not available to the general public because the products are stronger than those available to the public and require a special licence to apply. Because we buy in bulk we are able to fertilise and control weeds in a lawn, using and distributing products accurately and safely, often at a lower cost than you could buy less-effective products for yourself – so there really is no financial benefit in doing it yourself!
We also carry out physical tasks such as aeration and scarification at prices that compare well with hiring out machinery and doing the job yourself. We use machines that are much more effective than the traditional spiking with a fork or raking.
Why choose TruGreen Ross on Wye to provide your lawn care services?
More than 35 years business experience has taught us that each lawn is unique and thus, we customise our lawncare services to suit you and your garden.
We constantly evaluate our products, equipment and methods of lawncare to ensure that we are able to offer the most appropriate customised service for your lawn.
We carry a range of products that can deal with the vagaries of the weather, ensuring that your garden will always look as good as possible.
Our programme is flexible around the weather. Appointments are only confirmed when the weather forecast is appropriate.
The winter weather has again caused problems across the country. As the frost and snow has cleared it has again revealed large areas of grass that has been infected by snow mould and fusarium.
The Fusarium and snow mould fungus can cause mass destruction if left untreated. The problem has again come to the fore due to the amount of snow that has fallen this winter. Snow insulates the grass and cuts off all air supply which allows the disease to take hold. Does your lawn have pink/brown patches with cotton wool type fungus. This needs to be treated as soon as possible before you lose your complete lawn.
Now is also the ideal time to contact us to book aeration or scarification treatments which are best carried out in the Spring.
Our lawn assessment is completely free so why not call us today on 07444 772620 and get a full survey done so we can create your bespoke treatment package.
