How TruGreen Gloucestershire used a World Cup football match to raise £1822 for the Pied Piper Appeal.
Tickets were sold out on Friday 25th November for TruGreen Gloucestershire’s family fundraiser, which centred around the 2022 football world cup match between England and the USA.
Though the match ended with a 0-0 draw, the fundraiser, which took place in Gloucester’s Oxstalls Sports Park, was a massive success and raised £1822.76 for the local children’s charity, the Pied Piper Appeal.
The Pied Piper Appeal
The Pied Piper Appeal is a charity local to Gloucestershire that supports sick and disabled children and their families in the area. The appeal is currently celebrating its 30th Anniversary after it was founded in 1992 as a way to raise money for a children’s hospital.
To commemorate its 30th birthday, the Pied Piper Appeal partnered with 30 local businesses this year, including TruGreen Gloucestershire, to help fundraise for their services.
As a result, TruGreen Gloucestershire has been raising money for the Pied Piper Appeal year-round through local gardening club talks and has committed to raising £3,500. This, along with the £3,500 raised by the 29 other businesses will raise well over £120,000 in one year from just the local community’s efforts alone.
The Family Fun Evening
A whopping £1800 of this was raised in late November during the world cup fundraiser event.
The main fixture of the evening was naturally the football, but it was truly an evening for all to enjoy, as TruGreen Gloucestershire owner Mike Simmonds and the team at Oxstalls Sports Park organised a fully stocked bar with English and American-themed food to keep in theme with the match.
As well as activities for children like tennis coaching, football and basketball, and unlimited access to the Fun Factory Soft Play area.
As a further way to fundraise, a raffle was also held at halftime, giving people at the event and online a chance to win some fantastic prizes – some of which had been donated by our TruGreen brand owner ServiceMaster Brands UK, local people and businesses, and even Pied Piper themselves.
These included a signed England Males Rugby Shirt from the 2021 Six Nations, tickets to local events, days out, and shows, food and drink, vouchers (including £100 off lawn care from yours truly), and a family photo voucher.
Mike Simmonds, the owner of TruGreen Gloucestershire, was thrilled by the evening’s turnout and to be able to bring money and awareness to Pied Piper in the local community:
“The event was a great chance to come together, for all of those who attended. Seeing so many happy faces on the children who attended was fantastic,” he says.
“Giving chance for even more people to know about Pied Piper and raising funds for the cause was a positive thing for our team to get involved with.”
The team aren’t stopping there though, and Mike says they are already looking forward to raising more money and awareness for Pied Piper in the coming months.
The money raised for the Pied Piper Appeal by TruGreen Gloucestershire will help them to continue to carry out their fantastic services in the area.
